Laying-up of the Colours of The London Regiment
The London Regiment Association (LRA) laid up the Colours of The London Regiment on Saturday 20 April 2024 at the Guild Church of St Lawrence Jewry next Guildhall, in the City of London, in the presence of the Aldermanic Lord Mayor’s Representative, Alderman Alastair King DL.
Fifty-five former members of the Regiment mustered to march the Colours to church and the salute was taken by Alderman King, escorted by Major General Marc Overton and the City and Livery Member on the Council of 1st Battalion London Guards (Alderman Alison Gowman).
The service was co-celebrated by Fr James Titley, the Guild Vicar of St Lawrence Jewry, and the Rev Jonathan Jennings, Honorary Chaplain LRA.
An ‘Under These Colours’ tribute to the Regiment’s history of service since 1993, was delivered by Brigadier Jeremy Mooney with a focus on operational deployments.
The Order of Service is available using this link.
Following the service, the Regiment, as a former recipient of the City Privilege, was hosted by the City of London Corporation to a drinks reception and buffet lunch in the Old Library of the Guildhall.
The massed Pipes and Drums performed a short display to mark the end of the reception, which concluded the formal, LRA-organised elements of the day.
Photographs of the day will be published to the LRA website (Galleries). Thereafter, groups and individuals should make arrangements with the photographer (Stuart Turkington, www.stphotos.co.uk) to purchase prints via his online gallery.
